Polk City is a city located in Polk County, Iowa. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 2,344. Polk City is located along Saylorville Lake and near Big Creek State Park.

Polk City is located at 41°46'14" North, 93°42'57" West (41.770523, -93.715873).

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 7.1 km2 (2.7 mi2). 7.0 km2 (2.7 mi2) of it is land and 0.37% is water.

Polk City Demographics:

As of the census of 2000, there are 2,344 people, 826 households, and 645 families residing in the city. The population density is 332.7/km2 (862.4/mi2). There are 842 housing units at an average density of 119.5/km2 (309.8/mi2). The racial makeup of the city is 98.08% White, 0.30% African American, 0.26% Native American, 0.30% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.34% from other races, and 0.73% from two or more races. Approximately 0.68% of the population are Hispanic or Latino.

Of the 826 households present, 43.2% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 70.5% are married couples living together, 5.6% have a female householder with no husband present, and 21.8% are non-families. 15.7% of all households are made up of individuals and 5.1% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.76 and the average family size is 3.15.

The age distribution among residents is as follows: 28.5% under the age of 18, 6.4% from 18 to 24, 33.8% from 25 to 44, 22.8% from 45 to 64, and 8.5% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 34 years. For every 100 females there are 99 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 97.3 males.

The median income for a household in the city is $58,000, and the median income for a family is $64,688. Males have a median income of $41,875 -- versus $27,863 for females. The per capita income for the city is $23,476, and 2.4% of the population and 2.0% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 1.4% of those under the age of 18 and 15.6% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
